–下油锅不也有我陪着你吗？咱们俩捻成一根油条，岂不是也香喷喷美滋滋的？

–In my long life, I’ve already committed so many sins, when I die I’ll most likely be cast into hell. So while I’m still alive, I should try to atone for some of my sins, precisely for which I inflicted this injury. Anyway, when I die, I’ll be cast into the oil pan [1], frying in there for eighty years is still better than frying for a hundred years.

–Wouldn’t I be there to accompany you into the oil pan? The both of us will be twisted together into a stick of youtiao [2], wouldn’t it still be fragrant and sweet?

[1] 下油锅 (xia4 you2 guo1) is part of the saying 上刀山，下油锅, which literally means “to climb the mountain of knives, to descend into the oil pan” - both of which in Chinese Buddhist mythology refer to places in hell for punishment.

[2] 油条 (you2 tiao2) is a long golden-brown deep-fried strip of dough.
